Mineralisation

The Buller Coal hosts Eocene aged Brunner coal measures include thick continuous terrestrial coal seams lacustrine mudstones fluvial sandstones.

Covered largely sandstone 60m-thick overburden coal seams range 2m 13m thickness characterised ash.

The ash sulphur content increases gradually seam top. Towards roof seam coal bright irregular bands (carbonates) visible pyrite. Known continuous coal plies claystone partings not within seam.
